Boyfriend keeps pictures of his ex?

My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years. Hes gone back home to live in his house for 6 months for the first home buyers thing, ive seen him every month. He keeps all the pictures of his ex girlfriend in his bedside draw right on the top so hes been looking at them. Keeps all her love letters in his draw too. (il had that they broke up 2 years before we met). She cheated on him and he hasnt spoken to her for years but she always sends him texts radomly, however hes told me yesterday that they have recently been having 'lengthy chats' on the phone, and i read his texts to her and it said keep smiling that lovely smile of yours. So, i asked him about the pictures and he said im not going to throw them out, their just accumulative stuff over years and years and he might of pulled them out to look at them. so i asked him if hes over her and he said yes and proceeded to tell me a million times he loved me. I understand keeping the memories like in a box in the cupboard, but is it weird to keep them in his bed side draw? and if their talking now and mentioning catching up, .... id really like your opintions..
