I just got my lip pierced,, help?

I just got my lip re pierced yesterday. I had to "redo" it because the original piercing got VERY VERY swollen because I didn't take care of it properly. yes I know, my bad. Anyways, I wanted to know what I should be expecting from now till the ending of the healing process, like right now the front where the ball is, it stings slightly, does anyone know why? please I would like a lengthy answer, I really dont want to have to take this out again :(
